National Electronic Toll Collection is a program that uses the NETC FASTag device, which employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, to make toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it.
The National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program was launched by NPCI, NHAI, and IHMCL to automate toll collection, reduce traffic congestion, and establish an efficient, interoperable system across the country. Currently, it covers over 390 national highway toll plazas and 7 state toll plazas. click here to view the complete list.
The primary objective of the NETC program is to develop a four-party scalable model that includes the Issuer, Acquirer, NPCI, and Toll Plaza Operator. This model aims to establish a secure, reliable, and interoperable framework for toll payments across India.
The program also supports the Government of India’s sub-goals by focusing on:
- Electronification of retail payments
- Reducing air pollution through decreased congestion at toll plazas
- Lowering fuel consumption
NETC FASTag is a convenient solution for seamless travel on national highways. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to deduct toll payments directly from a linked prepaid or savings account. Affixed to your vehicle's windscreen, FASTag allows you to pass through toll plazas without stopping for cash transactions. You can purchase a FASTag from authorized issuers, and if it's linked to a prepaid account, simply recharge or top it up as needed.
Benefits of NETC FASTag

Promotional Cashback: NETC FASTag users receive a 5% monthly cashback on toll transactions for the fiscal year 2018-19.
Faster Transit: Auto-debit of the exact toll amount via NETC FASTag enables quicker transit through toll plazas, saving time.

Steps for NETC FASTag Closure and Claiming Balance Refund
A. Customer Actions for Tag Closure
FASTag closure can be done in two ways:
1) Manual FASTag Closure:
The customer can request the closure of their NETC FASTag by visiting the issuer bank and sub-issuer portal. Alternatively, the customer may call the issuer bank's customer care or toll-free number or send an email to the bank's support team to request closure.
2) Forceful FASTag Closure :
If the customer fails to close all their older active tags, the system will automatically suspend these tags within 15 days after a new tag is issued for the vehicle.
B. Customer Actions for Claiming Balance Refund

Note: The Turnaround Time (TAT) for FASTag closure is 15 days.
